R&B artist Eric Roberson takes the Apollo stage

R&B and soul artist Eric Roberson, who has been performing in New York City for many years, will mark a major musical milestone this weekend.

Roberson will perform at the Apollo Theater in Harlem on Saturday at 7 p.m. He says he has performed there many times, including as a member of a children’s choir and for the first time professionally in the 1990s. He had the chance to appear in the opening act for singer El DeBarge.

After three decades in the music business, the Rahway, New Jersey native is headlining his own show at the legendary theater for the first time.

“It really is a dream come true and it really comes full circle when I opened for El for the first time as an artist [DeBarge]“And being so nervous that I don’t screw anything up and hoping I do everything right,” he said. “I’m proud of the boy who kept working and you’ve had a lot of ups and downs but you’ve got to keep going and keep working and tomorrow will be a real celebration for that.”

Roberson describes his R&B music style as loving and uplifting.
