WEST SPRINGFIELD – A knife attack that left a man dead in May was the result of a botched robbery, according to court documents.

Police found Joseph Seymour Sr., of Amostown Road, on May 25 in a grassy area near his home, suffering from a stabbing that he later succumbed to. A police report recently obtained by The Republican sheds light on what allegedly led to his death — including the role played by his own children.

According to the new information, witnesses told investigators that Seymour and his son attacked and robbed a heroin dealer who had been called to their home, but Joseph Seymour Sr. became the ultimate victim.
