Netflix users are devouring season 1 of this survival drama while waiting for season 3

The first season of Yellowjackets ended with major mysteries, although major plot points were resolved from the jump. With a coming-of-age story that is both accessible and uplifting, the Showtime series has garnered a cult following on Netflix.




Less than two weeks after joining the Netflix library, Yellowjackets Season 1 proved its popularity by entering the streamer’s weekly top ten charts. The series is the platform’s eighth most-watched show in the U.S. from September 30 to October 6. The list features a diverse mix of comedy and romantic dramas, documentaries and reality series, with romantic comedy Nobody Wants This Season 1 topping the list. According to Netflix, rankings are based on the total number of hours watched divided by the series’ total running time. Yellowjackets Premiering on Showtime in weekly episodes from November 2021 to January 2022; Netflix began streaming the first season on October 1stwhich led to an increase in viewership from new viewers and cult fans.

“Yellowjackets” only has two seasons so far, but it has already surprised fans with many high-quality episodes and shocking moments.


YellowjacketsThe story is told in two juxtaposing timelines, showing the characters’ past and present storylines. The plot revolves around a 1996 plane crash that left a high school girls’ soccer team stranded in the wilderness for nineteen months. The series shows the lengths they went to in order to survive in flashbacks that provide context to their current lives. Things come to a head as their past actions catch up with them, and some revert to their primal instincts to clean up the past and move forward. Yellowjackets features a stacked ensemble of actors playing younger and current versions of characters, led by Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci, Ella Purnell, Juliette Lewis and Tawny Cypress.

The premise of Yellowjackets is heavily inspired by William Goldings Lord of the Fliesa novel about a group of outcast boys on a deserted island. Real events such as the Donner Party story and the air disaster in the Andes also influenced the plot. Showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson conceived the series as an all-female adaptation of Golding’s novel to depict the pecking order that develops among teenagers. Designed for a five-season storylineSeason 2 was confirmed in December 2021 and premiered in March 2023. In December 2022 Season 3 has been greenlit and is scheduled to release in 2025.
