The fire at the North Myrtle Beach Drag Strip was intentionally set, police say

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Horry County police believe a fire that caused damage to the North Myrtle Beach Drag Strip early Friday was intentionally set.

A police report obtained by WMBF News says an officer with the Horry County Police Department responded to the drag strip on Star Bluff Road just before 5:10 a.m

In their report, the officer said they saw the drag strip tower, concession building and bathroom building burned – the tower and bathrooms burned to the ground.

“The buildings were so far apart that the fire could not have spread between the three,” the officer’s report later said.

State investigators also believe all three fires were intentionally set, according to the documents.

Police spoke to a person identified as the victim and another person “who leased the property from the victim.” Both said they didn’t know who might have started the fire.

Further details were initially not known.
