Miss the College Gameday Show? Oregon Ducks vs. Ohio State

The No. 3 Oregon Ducks host ESPN College Gameday on Saturday when they play the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes. This will be the 12th time Oregon has hosted the wildly popular pregame show since its inception. The Ducks have an 8-3 record when College GameDay comes to town.

Unfortunately, Lee Corso, an integral part of the show, will not be there, according to ESPN’s Rece Davis.

Lee Corso misses game day in Eugene

Lee Corso will not be on the College Gameday Show on Saturday at 6 a.m. PST, according to ESPN’s Race Davis. Davis, the show’s host, spoke today about why Cross wouldn’t show up in Eugene.

“He won’t be here this week. He’s doing better. “He’s been a little under the weather the last few weeks,” Davis said. “He said he was sorry he was missing his best friend the duck.”

Corso also missed the GameDay show in Berkeley, Calif., for the Miami vs. Cal game last week.

The iconic Lee Corso

Lee Corso is one of the most popular figures in sports. The former college coach from 1958 to 1985 has become one of the universal faces of college football. Shortly after his coaching career, Corso was hired by ESPN in 1987 for the “College Gameday Show.” Corso took this opportunity and took advantage of it.

The show travels to different locations each week and highlights the most important games of the week. Corso is best known for its “mascot head selection.” When the show comes to an end and the crew selects the host campus’s game, Corso will don the mascot head of the team he believes will win. It’s a big hit and something every fan loves to watch. This tradition began in 1996 when Corso donned the head of Ohio State’s mascot, Brutus. From there it took off.

Corso is also known for his “Not so fast my friend” singing. This is usually said when he disagrees with another person on the panel on a match prediction. It’s gold.

In recent seasons, Corso appeared less frequently on the series; Weeks are missing here and there.

Rece Davis: “I love Dillon Gabriel”

Rece Davis also shared his thoughts on the upcoming Oregon vs. Ohio State game.

“Oregon’s defense can lead to some negative plays,” Davis said. “I love Dillon Gabriel. He’s sensational.”

Davis talked about how Gabriel needs to be better if the Ducks want to get the win over the Buckeyes.

“Can’t throw interceptions from the 11-yard line. That doesn’t work. He knows that,” Davis said. “As long as he executes the way he did in his career at UCF and Oklahoma, he’ll be fine.”

Gabriel may have gotten away with those red zone turnovers against UCLA and Michigan State, but Ohio State is a different beast.

“You can make them (those mistakes) against Sparty (Michigan State) and come away scot-free. You won’t be able to talk about it against the Buckeyes.”

Davis’ challenge to Eugene

Rece Davis addressed the Eugene crowd on college game day.

“Oregon was largely the standard bearer, on the West Coast Cal might have taken the title last week,” Davis said. “Now Oregon gets a chance to respond, so let’s see what they get.”

The guest selection announced for Saturday’s selection is Oregon alumni and actress Kaitlin Olson.

“She (Olson) is a big star,” Davis said. “We want someone who is entertaining, recognizable and has an appreciation for the show and the sport… We think she will be sensational.
