Mother faces kidnapping charges after taking child from CPS custody

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KVRR-KFGO) – A Grand Forks woman was arrested following an incident in which her three-year-old child was removed from the custody of Child Protective Services (CPS) at a Grand Forks hotel.

According to Grand Forks police, CPS took custody of the child Thursday during an ongoing narcotics investigation at the Quality Inn Hotel. Krysta Ramstad, 22, attempted to take the child away from CPS workers despite multiple warnings. She allegedly ignored officers’ commands and responded using vulgar language. Ramstad then fled the hotel with the child, driving away at high speed and endangering the child. Several calls were made to defuse the situation and ask them to return to the hotel.

Authorities later located Ramstad at 5029 Coppergate Drive, where she initially resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody.

The child was placed back under CPS protection following the incident.
