Purdue vs. Illinois personnel predictions

Purdue vs. Illinois personnel predictions

It’s that time again, folks. The employees put their predictions on record. To understand Kyle’s prediction, you need to understand that the email I sent out asking for predictions asked, “Can Purdue pull off an upset?” Will they beat the (current) 21.5 point spread ? Let me know!”

Ledman (5-0):

I had already voted against Purdue before the Hudson Card news was announced, but that certainly doesn’t help my confidence. Maybe there will be a revelation at QB and the entire season will turn around. Maybe not.

In the last episode of the Boiler Alert podcast, I stated that this Purdue team is just bad, going up against an Illinois offense that did a good job of not turning the ball over. Only one interception by Altmeyer this season. They dropped a fair amount of sacks, so maybe there’s a way to find damage there. I just don’t see it.

Jed (5-0):

Can Purdue pull off an upset? Sure, they could if everything went absolutely well for them. They haven’t proven their ability to overcome any adversity this season and were able to hang with Nebraska through the first three quarters because things were just going well. Will that happen against an Illini squad that looks like a program that looks set to continue taking steps in the right direction and appears to be under the leadership of Brett Bielema? Not likely.

Things probably won’t go well for this Purdue team on the road in the B1G, and that doesn’t bode well for a program that seems to be struggling in every way. Purdue’s 21.5 point lead over a program that should be our benchmark should speak volumes about where the program is. Purdue falls in a game that looks eerily similar to last week’s at Wisconsin. Purdue’s offense continues to falter, the defense doesn’t know how to execute the plan, and the special teams can only do so much as the only viable unit.

*Edit because it was announced that the Hudson Card is no longer available and… other things

It will be difficult to get everything on track at this point, as rumors suggest Walters may be trying too hard to save what he believes he built at Purdue. This has quickly deteriorated and it could easily look like a Wisconsin/Notre Dame type loss. Walters was not supposed to be allowed into the building on Sunday.

Ryan (5-0):

Short and sweet today. Can Purdue upset Illinois: I doubt it. Will they beat the 21.5 point spread: probably not. Will I watch: Yes, because I’m in pain.

Garrett (3-1*)

Editor’s note: Garrett was a coward and gave up two points against Oregon State, so I decided not to give him any credit regardless of the result.

I know this is a huge game in many ways for our former Illinois head coach, but things aren’t looking good.

Illinois is a well-coached team that is ranked and playing at home. I sound like a broken record every week when I start things with “I hate to say it, but…”.

Despite all this scheming disorganization, I doubt Purdue comes out on top. I’m taking Illinois to win.
