Massive Attack have canceled their US tour at the last minute due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

The trip-hop legends were scheduled to play four dates, their first U.S. appearances in five years. The first performance was scheduled for October 17th at the Coca-Cola Roxy Theater in Atlanta. Appointments in Washington. DC, Boston and Queens should follow before the end of the month.

The band wrote on Instagram: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Massive Attack regrettably has to cancel their upcoming appearance at the III Points Festival in Miami, Florida on October 19th, as well as their shows in Atlanta (GA), Washington DC, Boston (MA) and Forest. “Hills NY. We thank you for your understanding at this time.”

In August the group played a major show in Bristol, an all-day event aimed at reimagining how concerts can be staged sustainably. It was designed to be the lowest carbon concert of its kind and scale ever staged and featured artists such as Killer Mike, Lankum, Sam Morton and DJ Milo from The Wild Bunch.

NME We recently attended the groundbreaking all-day event where we gave our opinion on whether the band made it: “There’s something about the idea that an iconic, veteran campaigning act like Massive Attack can make things happen (like bonus moves!) True to it! It may happen that other events may not be able to be carried out as easily. And it’s true that an enthusiastic audience in Bristol, fresh from the election of a Greens MP (who is also there and speaking on a panel), is likely to be receptive to a concept like this.

“But there have to be a few pioneers who push the boundaries and take everyone else with them. Massive Attack and their event partners are the first to bring all the pieces of the low carbon puzzle together. This is what live music of the future has to look like everywhere in the end.”

They have also announced a similar series of shows taking place in Liverpool in November alongside IDLES and Nile Rodgers. The dates are in honor of the city’s designation as the world’s first “UN Accelerator City” for climate change and will take place from November 28th to 30th.
