Fatal crash in Shelby County – Outlook for Mercer County

Shelby County – (11/24/10) The Ohio State Highway Patrol Piqua Post is investigating a fatal traffic accident that occurred around 2:17 a.m. on northbound Interstate 75 near mile post 86 in Shelby County. When they arrived at the scene, officers discovered a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling northbound. It entered Interstate 75 and went off the right side of the road. As the Jeep left the roadway, it struck a 2013 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer driven by Ahmed of Columbus, Ohio, which was stopped on the right shoulder.

As a result of the accident, the driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead by medical personnel. The driver’s name is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin. Omar has reported no injuries. The crash is still under investigation.

Piqua Post troopers were assisted at the scene by Sidney Fire and EMS, the Shelby County Coroner’s Office and Wrecker’s Towing.
