Woman who poured boiling water on 10-year-old boy is charged with aggravated assault

A 46-year-old Longueuil, Que., woman who allegedly threw boiling water on a 10-year-old boy as he walked past her home is charged with aggravated assault.

Stéphanie Borel was arrested following the attack on October 2, in which the boy suffered severe burns to his head, face, torso and back.

She was released the same day with a promise to appear and under conditions including that she was not allowed to have contact with the child and his family, she said Longueuil agglomeration police service (SPAL).

Borel is expected to make his first court appearance at the Longueuil courthouse on Friday afternoon.

The boy told Radio-Canada that he was walking home from school with friends in the south shore city of Montreal and that they “took a shortcut” that stopped at the woman’s home near the intersection of Curé-Poirier Boulevard East and passed Chambly Road.

CBC News is withholding the child’s name because he is a minor and a victim of violence. The decision prevents his identity from being further linked to the incident in online searches.

His father, Tewa Pierre Senin, said the boy came home around 4 p.m. and screamed: “Dad, someone threw boiling water on me. I suffered burns!”

After the attack, Borel allegedly told the boy’s father that she attacked his son because he had had a habit of knocking on her door for three years. The woman lives in an apartment building.

Senin said that was impossible because the family only came to the neighborhood in January and the boy only started attending school near the woman’s home a month ago.
