Yellowstone National Park reports an increase in visitor numbers in September statistics report

GILLETTE, Wyo. – In its monthly visitor statistics report, Yellowstone National Park reported that September visitor numbers were slightly higher than last September.

The park hosted 852,435 recreational visitors in September, bringing year-to-date visits to a whopping 4,349,689 visits in 2024.

The number represents a 2% increase in visitation compared to September 2023. Overall, park visitation numbers are also still above 2023 visitation numbers, a 5% increase over this year.

However, 2021 is still the busiest 2021 in recent years, as many parks experienced a boom in visitors following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to parks being temporarily closed in 2020. Yellowstone, in particular, was closed from late March to mid-May this year.

Compared to 2021 numbers, visits so far are down 3%.
