The Diplomat: Season Three; Early renewal announced for Keri Russell drama on Netflix – canceled + renewed TV shows, ratings

(Netflix)

The diplomat returns for its second season later this month, but fans of the series don’t have to worry about the series ending there. Netflix has renewed the series for a third season, which is already filming in London and New York City.

Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear and Ato Essandoh star in the series, which follows Katherine “Kate” Wyler (Russell) after she is posted as an ambassador to the United Kingdom.

Netflix revealed the following about the second season:

“The call comes from inside the house.

A deadly explosion in the heart of London shakes the world of US Ambassador Kate Wyler (Keri Russell). As she struggles to rebuild the life that was broken and the team that split up, Kate’s worst fears come true: the attack that brought her to Britain came not from a rival country, but from within the British government. As Kate pursues the truth, her only real ally is her almost-ex-husband Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell), who is very much alive and very involved. She faces a strained marriage, complex dynamics with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and a looming visit from Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney).”

Creator Debora Cahn teased this about the third season to Tudum: “Season 3 turns the chessboard on its head. Kate is living the special nightmare that is getting what you want.”

Season two of The diplomat arrives October 31st. The premiere date for the third season will be announced later.
