‘Heartbreaking’ death of child in west Belfast caused by tragic accident, say neighbors – The Irish News

Police have confirmed they are investigating a sudden death in west Belfast believed to be a toddler.

A lone police car was parked outside an apartment complex on Springfield Road Thursday evening.

Neighbors who reported their shock said they believed a child about three years old had died in a tragic accident on one of the properties.

Earlier Thursday, some residents had asked on social media for prayers for the child to make it through.

A person at the scene said they were alerted after seeing social media posts.

“It was only when I saw the police car outside that I realized it was the flats across the street. If it’s true, it’s heartbreaking. I don’t know the family but I’m praying for them. It’s just terrible. A real tragedy,” she said.

In a statement, a PSNI spokesman confirmed they attended the scene of a “sudden death in the Springfield Road area of ​​west Belfast”, adding that there was no further information.
