Haason Reddick lost $9 million in NY Jets holdout and was released by CAA following Woody Johnson’s plea deal

Haason Reddick lost million in NY Jets holdout and was released by CAA following Woody Johnson’s plea deal

The New York Jets are taking care of business, and quickly. There were hints of Robert Saleh’s firing, but it took everyone by surprise. But the 2-3 opening implored the Jets to take care of more business. They had been at an impasse with Haason Reddick for a long time, and now it was time for the team to act.

The former Philadelphia pass rusher has been in a holding pattern since arriving at the Jets facility. He completed an introductory training session on April Fool’s Day but has not taken the field since. The veteran has racked up millions of dollars in fines and Adam Schefter has more details on the case.

Schefter’s most recent Instagram post said: “CAA has parted ways with New York holdout pass rusher Haason Reddick, according to sources.” The ESPN journalist further added“Reddick has already missed five games, forfeiting nearly $800,000 per game, for a total of over $4 million.” Additionally, he has accumulated more than $5 million in NFL-mandated fines. “

Other sources indicate that by missing those five games, Reddick racked up $4.2 million in fines out of his non-guaranteed annual salary of $14.25 million. The DPOY 2022 now faces fines of approximately $9 million. Reddick is parting ways with CAA, indicating he is no longer represented by his agents and is looking for a new agency.

However, the NFLPA website still lists Tory Dandy and Jimmy Sexton as his agents. There is a five day waiting period for the website to be updated after the documents have been submitted. According to Mike Florio, players and CAA part ways when it is initiated by a player, and given Reddick’s circumstances, it all makes sense.

The former Eagles pass rusher’s agents may have been responsible for the massive blunder, and here’s how.

The former DPOY recorded 16 sacks during the 2022 season. His performance improved the next season as he recorded 11 sacks and 23 QB hits. Of course, he was in line for a big promotion, but the Eagles refused a raise. So Reddick felt it was time to move on. He was traded to the New York Jets for a conditional third-round pick in the 2026 draft. But he was about to be hit by a curveball.

The New York Jets were under the impression that the pass rusher would play under his current contract, and sources indicate that Reddick’s agent has informed the NY Jets that he will play under the current contract. The pass rusher still hoped that the Jets would give him a new contract, but that didn’t happen and the New York team continued his old contract.

Team owner Woody Johnson asked Reddick to come back and play for his team. “Haason, get in your car, drive down I-95 and get to the New York Jets.” Johnson said Tuesday. “We can meet you and escort you straight into the building and you will fit in well. And you will love it here, feel welcome and achieve great things with us. ”

Reddick is nearing the deadline of not being able to play the entire season. In this case, his contract will be postponed until 2025.
