Former Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD substitute teacher released on bond for child injury

GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas — A former Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD substitute teacher accused of child assault has been released from custody in Bexar County less than a month after similar charges in Guadalupe County.

Schertz police said their school resource officers received a report from two juveniles with allegations against 42-year-old Yorllin Hernandez on Oct. 3 while he was working as a substitute at Rose Garden Elementary School.

The report accused Hernandez of physically assaulting the children, which is considered a third-degree felony.

Schertz police said their officers arrested Hernandez on Wednesday. He was charged with two counts of injury to a child and taken to the Bexar County Adult Detention Center.

Each child injury charge against Hernandez was worth $15,000, for a total of $30,000. According to Bexar County Jail records, Hernandez was released from custody Thursday around 2:15 p.m.

Last month, Cibolo police arrested Hernandez on Sept. 27 at Jordan Intermediate School on two counts of injury to a child.

Hernandez was booked into the Guadalupe County Jail and held on $5,000 bail on each charge, for a total of $10,000. He was released from Guadalupe County custody on September 28th.

In total, Hernandez faces four child injury charges: two in Bexar County and two more in Guadalupe County.

In a Sept. 27 SCUCISD letter obtained by KSAT, the district stated that Hernandez would not return to SCUCISD in the future.

According to the district, Hernandez was a substitute teacher employed by ESS, a third-party education recruiting company.

ESS is “responsible for the hiring, training and placement of substitute teachers, support staff and office staff,” SCUCISD said on its district’s website.
