Man charged with murder in fatal stabbing at Nanakuli Wendy’s

The 60-year-old homeless man arrested in connection with the stabbing death of a 22-year-old Wendy’s employee Sunday morning in Nanakuli was charged with murder this morning, according to Honolulu police.

Reynaldo C. Cheney, who is linked to illegal camping, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder in connection with the death of 22-year-old Kashka Otto.

Cheney’s bail is set at $1 million.

The city’s Department of the Medical Examiner provided a report number to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser but declined to release further information about the 22-year-old victim.

Otto was stabbed Sunday after arguing with Cheney as he tried to escort him out of the Nanakuli Wendy’s, where Cheney was allegedly rearranging the furniture.

Otto’s 44-year-old colleague was also injured in the fight, but was treated and later released. He was a 6-foot-3 senior on the 2020 Waianae High School boys volleyball team and wore number 16 as a setter and outside hitter.
