Bronson’s Scare was voted TDR Football Player of the Week by readers

Foster of Coldwater is second and Decker of Union City is third

BRONSON – In the sixth week of high school football in Branch County, two local teams faced off in a rivalry match as Union City defeated Bronson 36-8.

In other Branch County news, the Coldwater Cardinals picked up their third win of the year with a win over Pennfield, while the Quincy Orioles continue to look for win number one after a loss at Stockbridge. The Tekonsha Indians had to forfeit their game last week due to injuries and illness.

Throughout all of this action, there were several individual performances that were among the best of the week, with eight different nominees up for voting in this week’s Daily Reporter Football Player of the Week poll.

You, the readers, participated in this week’s poll with a record number of nearly 37,000 votes. The poll quickly became a two-way battle with Bronson’s Karsen Scare and Coldwater’s Dracyn Foster pulling away from the pack and battling back and forth throughout most of the poll. In the end, a late surge gave Scare the lead and eventual victory, as you, the readers, named Bronson’s Scare this week’s Daily Reporter Football Player of the Week.

Scare won the honor this week with 56.38% of the vote, or 20,680 votes, a new record for a single vote.

Scare was a stalwart and key member of the Viking defense all year long, regularly leading the team in tackles while ranking high in sacks. Last week against Union City, Scare was the team’s leading tackler and poured every energy into the Viking defense, a performance worthy of The Daily Reporter Football Player of the Week honors.

Coming in second place in this week’s poll is Dracyn Foster, a sophomore signal caller from Coldwater. Foster finished the poll with 39.09% of the vote, for a total of 14,338 votes.

Foster finished last week’s win over Pennfield as one of the team leaders in offense, leading the Cardinals with 2-for-9 passing attempts for 99 yards and two scores, passes of 61 yards to Kendall Austin and passes of 38 yards to Evan Lewis . Foster also provided a great rushing score, getting into the end zone on a quarterback draw, where the sophomore rumbled 49 yards for a score. In total, Foster had five carries for 67 yards on the ground for the score.

Union City’s Aidan Decker placed third in this week’s poll after his work in the Chargers’ win over Bronson, receiving 3 percent of the vote, or just over 1,000 votes. Decker once again went about his business calmly but dominantly. Decker led the Union City defense with 12 total tackles, including two for a loss, while on offense he added two catches for 34 yards, one of which resulted in a first down on a huge third down and long.

Noah Kelley and Quincy Orioles also received votes in this week’s Daily Reporter Football Player of the Week poll; Brendan LaBar, Union City Chargers; Kam Brackett, Bronson Vikings; Kayden Roby, Coldwater Cardinals; and Ethan Pearson, Quincy Orioles.

Congratulations again to Bronson’s Carsen Scare, The Daily Reporter’s Week 6 Football Player of the Week.
