Man sentenced to 18 years in prison after 2023 shooting at Badger Tavern

MADISON, Wis. — A man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison followed by 15 years of extended supervision in connection with a 2023 shooting at the Badger Tavern.

Caleb DiMaggio, 25, was charged with second-degree premeditated murder following a fatal shooting in 2023 that killed 44-year-old Jason Pritchard.

Witnesses who said they saw DiMaggio shoot Pritchard told police during their investigation that the 23-year-old had been “acted up earlier in the night” and was “casually holding his gun” before shooting at the victim shot.

According to a criminal complaint, DiMaggio told police that Pritchard would not fight him, but the complaint did not say what might have made DiMaggio want to fight.

The results of the breathalyzer test DiMaggio took shortly after 1:10 a.m., about an hour after police arrived at the scene, showed DiMaggio had a blood sugar level of 0.221.
