Longtime Mukwonago poll workers will receive security training before Election Day

The Village of Mukwonago is preparing poll workers for election day with security training. Mary Patz has monitored voting in the village for 15 years. Her friend Joyce Luebke has been doing this for 10 years. They said most of the problems they see are minor.

“Because the line is too long or this or that,” Mary said.

“They’re frustrated, but they’re not taking it out on us,” Joyce said.

Joyce Luebke is taking part in training to become a poll worker in the village of Mukwonago.

However, on Thursday, the village of Mukwonago is talking about election security. They want to make sure people like Mary and Joyce don’t get hurt while helping others. Village Police Chief Dan Streit says they are teaching de-escalation techniques to poll workers for the first time in his 30 years with the department.

“As far as I know, poll workers have never been trained in this, so we’re just going to give them a few techniques to try to de-escalate a situation should it arise.” Regardless of their level.” said Streit.

Village Clerk Diana Dykstra also addressed ballot security and showed poll workers the various voting machines.

“Teach them how to use the ballot box itself and make it clear to them where the ballots go. That’s how you clear a traffic jam,” Dystra said.

This is all to ensure that Election Day runs smoothly.

“I look forward to it. Just to see the buy-in we have for this,” Joyce said.

“I can’t wait for it to be over,” Mary said.

On Election Day, Mukwonago Village Police plan to make regular visits to each polling station throughout the day to ensure security.
