The Northeast Columbia crash is an “active homicide investigation” following the death of a teenager

COLUMBIA, Missouri (KMIZ)

An unknown number of suspects are at large and considered a threat to the public after an accident occurred in northeastern Colombia on Thursday morning.

Columbia police said officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Boyd Lane just after 8 a.m. They found a vehicle crashing into woods a street away on Fair Lane, but no evidence of shots fired. Police wrote in a news release that they responded to a call where shots were heard and also described it as a call where shots were fired.

CPD wrote in a news release Thursday evening that an unconscious man was found at the scene. According to the news release, 18-year-old Traquan Reed was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The news release did not describe the nature of Reed’s injuries.

“This incident is currently the subject of an active murder investigation. At this time there are still open suspects,” the press release states.

A neighbor sent videos to ABC 17 News that appeared to show two young men with covered faces and guns in the area around 8 a.m. CPD could not confirm whether the two men shown in the video were suspects.

An ABC 17 News reporter who arrived at the scene after the accident saw approximately five patrol cars and the CPD crime scene investigation vehicle. One person was taken into police custody and another person left the scene in an ambulance.

Police used a drone to monitor the area late Thursday morning.

CPD did not provide further information, citing the ongoing investigation.
