Palmdale man identified in fatal crash on Highway 58 near Tehachapi

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the Palmdale man killed after a crash on Highway 58 as 31-year-old Erick Hernandez.

The California Highway Patrol said that at approximately 4:50 a.m. on October 3, 2024, officers were called to a crash on westbound Highway 58 west of Mill Street.

CHP said Hernandez was driving a Toyota Tacoma westbound on Highway 58.

According to CHP, the truck overturned for reasons that are still unclear.

Hernandez died from his injuries.

Driver impairment is not suspected to have contributed to this accident, according to the CHP.

A GoFundMe campaign has been created for Hernandez. It said: “He was an amazing and great father, husband, son, grandson, brother, cousin and friend. He was always there for everyone, whether you were having a good day or a bad day. His jokes always brought a smile to everyone’s face, and his smile lit up every room he walked into.
