Caregiver charged with sexual assault and neglect in Sumner County

GALLATIN, Tenn. – A Sumner County man who acted as a caregiver for a vulnerable adult was charged and arrested last month after Tennessee Bureau of Investigation agents received allegations of abuse against the vulnerable adult.

Boris Whitworth, 69, was charged on September 4 with two counts of aggravated rape, one count of neglect of a vulnerable adult and one count of sexual exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

Nathan Nichols, assistant attorney general for the 18th Judicial District, called for an investigation by TBI agents in June after allegations of abuse were made against Whitworth. The 35-year-old victim was taken from Sumner County Regional Medical Center to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he received treatment for injuries sustained in the assault.

Whitworth was booked into the Sumner County Jail and is currently being held on $300,000 bond.

TBI attached the following statement to their arrest report:

“The allegations and accusations mentioned in this press release are merely allegations of criminal conduct and do not constitute evidence. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted by due process of law.”

As Channel 5 turns 70, we remember the 1960s RnB showcase Night Train

When I was younger, people of my generation spent part of their weekends watching music shows like American Bandstand and Soul Train. This was before the age of music videos. A few years before Soul Train was syndicated out of Chicago, another syndicated R&B show was taped in Nashville on NewsChannel 5. Night Train aired in the ’60s and featured what may have been the first TV appearance of legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix. Forrest Sanders looks back at the station’s history.
