Stanford didn’t record a win either full season since 2018, making it five consecutive years without appearing in a bowl game. They have only won three games in each of the last three seasons. Head coach Troy Taylor is still confident he can get the team on track, including by driving forward a historic modernization program. “When I got to Stanford, they hadn’t even talked about it [NIL] Collective,” Taylor said before this season. “I thought, ‘Do you know what’s going on out there? “The world is changing, so we better adapt quickly.”

This duel has a long history and dates back to the 1925 Rose Bowl – Saturday marks the 38th meeting of all time between the two teams.
