Kansas City teen jailed again after allegedly shooting at a car while serving his sentence

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Northland teenager is behind bars, accused of shooting at a car while awaiting trial for a similar crime.

Clay County prosecutors filed a motion asking a judge to revoke or increase bail for 19-year-old Michael Smallwood.

The motion alleges that Smallwood fired a gun at a car as it exited a Kansas City parking garage on Sept. 15. The motion also shows the crime was captured on surveillance video.

The shooting occurred as Smallwood was awaiting trial in a shooting outside North Kansas City High School on March 2.

Prosecutors charged Smallwood with unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and aiding and abetting a suspect in connection with the high school shooting. His trial is scheduled to begin in March.

At a hearing Thursday, a Clay County judge increased Smallwood’s bond to $750,000. He also ordered Smallwood to remain in custody pending additional bail.

Arrest records show Smallwood was in custody in Clay County as of Thursday afternoon.
