Independence man charged with assault after knife throwing incident

An Independence man has been charged with a felony in Grundy County after he allegedly threw a knife at another person on Oct. 9.

According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Christian James Patton has been charged with first-degree assault or attempted assault. Patton was arrested by Trenton police on October 9th.

He is being held without bail and has been ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim. His court date is scheduled for Oct. 22 in the Associate Division of Grundy County Circuit Court.

The probable cause statement alleges Patton threw a knife, nearly hitting the victim in the head. Several witnesses reportedly heard Patton threatening to kill the person. This incident is said to have resulted from a verbal argument between Patton and the other person. Additionally, Patton is accused of not returning the person’s cell phone and throwing it on the ground.
