Steelers’ Arthur Smith insulted Russell Wilson while praising Justin Fields

Anyone hoping that Russell Wilson will eventually take over the starting role for the Pittsburgh Steelers should probably start thinking about logical Wilson trades that move him away from the Steel City instead.

At least according to a new, unsubtle, revealing quote from offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

On Thursday, Smith praised Justin Fields — who filled in for Wilson at the start of the 2024 season while he recovers from a calf injury — for being coachable and, wait for it, his lack of drama as someone who is “not trying to live “. through his avatar.”

If I didn’t know any better, it sure sounds like this is an obvious reference to Wilson, who has gained a reputation over the years for being completely lacking in authenticity:

Oof. If Smith really means Wilson, it’s hard to imagine the quarterback ever playing a single snap for Pittsburgh at this pace, barring injuries. Imagine that. Wilson might have exhausted his receptions without throwing a single pass for the Steelers in the regular season.

I guess that’s exactly where his Hall of Fame career is currently in the future.
