Tractor truck rollover leads to traffic delays, vehicle avoids serious accident

BEVERLY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A tractor-trailer rollover near Citizens Bank in Beverly caused significant traffic delays Wednesday morning.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO), led by Deputy Pingley, responded to the scene following a 911 call reporting the accident.

According to RCSO, the tractor-trailer became detached from its trailer while negotiating a curve, causing the trailer to overturn and wood to fall onto the road.

Despite the damage to the rear of the truck, the semi-trailer remained upright and the driver was not injured.

A Jeep traveling in the area narrowly avoided a serious accident as the vehicle’s hardtop was damaged when a tree trunk struck it. Fortunately, the driver of the Jeep was uninjured.

An investigation determined that equipment failure was the cause of the accident.

Witnesses reported that the truck driver was not driving too fast and that there were vehicles both in front of and behind him. The malfunction occurred when the truck’s fifth wheel hitch broke and the trailer came loose.

The Beverly Fire Department, Elkins Trucking and the West Virginia Department of Transportation (WVDOT) assisted at the scene.

No injuries were reported and traffic resumed after delays.
