Picturehouse Entertainment Buys Rungano Nyoni’s ‘On Becoming A Guinea Fowl’ For UK-Ireland (Exclusive)

Picturehouse Entertainment has acquired distribution rights to Rungano Nyoni’s in the UK and Ireland About becoming a guinea fowlwhich hits theaters on Friday, December 6th.

The film has its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival this evening (Thursday 10 October). A24 takes care of international sales.

About becoming a guinea fowl follows a woman who stumbles upon her uncle’s corpse in the middle of the night; Then, along with her cousins, she begins to uncover hidden secrets of her middle-class Zambian family. Susan Chardy and Elizabeth Chisela lead the cast. The film is in the running for the 2025 Baftas.

It is Nyoni’s second feature film after 2017 I’m not a witchwhich won the Bafta for outstanding debut by a British writer, director or producer for Nyoni and producer Emily Morgan. He also won three Bifas, including Best Director and Best Debut Director awards for Nyoni.

About becoming a guinea fowl is produced by Tim Cole, Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe for Element Pictures. The film was developed by BBC Film, whose director Eva Yates is among the executive producers.

It joins a Picturehouse list that also includes Gia Coppola’s The Last Showgirl with Pamela Anderson and Steven Soderbergh PresentAlonso Ruizpalacios La Cocina and Paolo Sorrentinos Parthenope.
