A young Irishman who tragically died in Australia will be remembered this weekend at an emotional ceremony organized by his family and friends.

Donegal man Barry Breslin died in an industrial accident in Perth last Thursday.

The 35-year-old, who hailed from Kilcar, was a hugely popular figure in both his Irish hometown and his adopted home Down Under.

He played GAA for Kilcar as an underage player and his family are involved with the club.

The father of one died during road construction work in the Australian city.

Mr Breslin’s partner and fiancée, Melissa Taheny, has revealed that they have now organized a celebration of Barry’s life

Barry, who was popularly known as ‘Duke’, was father to the couple’s young son Tommy, 3, and moved to Australia in 2011.

Ms Taheny, who is also Irish, thanked everyone who has supported her, Tommy and the Breslin family during their time of grief.

She said: “First of all, I would like to thank you all for the love, support and generosity you have shown over the last few days. Myself, Tommy and the Breslin family cannot thank you enough.

“Duke was loved by many and to celebrate his life we ​​invite everyone to come to Neil Hawkins Park in Joondalup this Saturday from 12pm to 4pm to celebrate Duke’s life.

“Thank you all and hope to see you there. Melissa, Tommy and the Breslin family.”

Funeral arrangements will be confirmed later.

A statement on rip.ie said: “Barry Breslin has tragically died following an accident in Perth, Australia.” Beloved father of his son Tommy. He is sadly missed by his loving fiancée Melissa, his parents Mary and Seamus, his brothers Owen (Beth & Hazel) and Shane (Gerard). House private until further notice. May his gentle soul rest in peace.’

A Go Fund Me appeal for the funeral and the family has raised nearly $800,000 since it began last week.
