Pilot escapes serious injury after crash landing in Butler County

AUGUSTA, Kan. (WIBW) – The pilot of a small plane escaped serious injury during a crash landing in Butler County on Wednesday evening, according to authorities.

The incident was reported at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday near SW 75th Street and Santa Fe Lake Road. The location was approximately 4 miles northwest of Augusta.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, which investigated the incident, the crash occurred with a single-engine, fixed-wing Zodiac 601 aircraft landing on a private strip.

The pilot lost control of the plane after landing and crashed into a fence, the patrol said.

The pilot, Randall Dean McFarland, 68, of Augusta, was reported uninjured. The patrol said McFarland, who was alone on the plane, was wearing his restraint.
