A constitutional amendment is a legislative scare tactic

Voting changes are legislative scaremongering

Since there are hardly any fans, a constitutional amendment will be on the ballot on November 5th. Like the two constitutional amendments we voted on on April 4, this amendment deserves a resounding “no.”

A “yes” vote on this “right to vote” amendment removes the guarantee that “every” U.S. citizen has the right to vote. This is changing so that “only” US citizens have the guaranteed right to vote in Wisconsin. This seems to be a distinction without a difference. That’s not it.

Changing the language from “every” citizen to “only” citizens provides lawmakers with the opportunity to further restrict our right to vote.

The main purpose of this amendment is to sow fear (“Are our elections unsafe?”). It opens the door to discriminatory practices that disenfranchise thousands of eligible voters.

From July 2023 to September 2024, the Wisconsin Elections Commission reported only 30 cases of fraud or voting irregularities that were referred to the attorney general’s office. Wisconsin already enforces security measures to ensure everyone US citizens eligible to vote are safe in Wisconsin.

Don’t fall for another legislative scare tactic. Vote “No” on the November 5 constitutional amendment ballot question.
