19-year-old guilty in fatal shooting at Garfield Heights Pizza Hut

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – A 19-year-old Garfield Heights man pleaded guilty to a fatal shooting at the Garfield Heights Pizza Hut earlier this year.

Dakaree Cook pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence in the death of 20-year-old Anthony Hairston.

Garfield Heights Police Chief Mark Kaye said the shooting happened at the restaurant in the 5500 block of Turney Road around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 3.

Hairston died of his injuries on January 5 at Cleveland Clinic Marymount Hospital.

Chief Kaye added that the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and both men knew each other.

Cook will be sentenced Nov. 6 by Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Judge William Vodrey and faces 18 to 25 years in prison.
