The Real Madrid legend will terminate his contract at the end of the season

Accordingly, Real Madrid legend Raúl’s contract as head coach of Castilla will be terminated at the end of the season MARCAwhich quoted anonymous sources.

The former number 7 retired as a New York Cosmos player in 2015. His illustrious career spanned 16 years at the Bernabeu and three Champions League titles.

In 2018, he turned to coaching and was later given the manager’s job to oversee the reserve team called Castilla, where he has worked ever since.

However, last season, when Carlo Ancelotti’s senior side advanced to the treble with another UCL title, there were numerous reports that Raúl would move in the summer.

He was heavily linked with first-team jobs in Germany, particularly with one of his former employers, Schalke 04.

As we now know, none of this came to light and Raúl remained with Castilla. However, when the current 2024/2025 campaign ends, Raul is expected to step down from a position he has held for six years by then.

MARCA explains that the decision has already been made and communicated, just as the board, led by Florentino Perez, has wasted no time in appointing a successor.

That will be Alvaro Arbeloa, who is currently head coach of the Juvenile A team and continues to climb the career ladder.

Back to Raúl: He will not leave the club entirely, as would be expected of him if a move to the Bundesliga were successful.

Instead, he will take on a new role in the Spanish capital, be it taking on a responsible position in the youth academy, which he graduated from in the early 1990s alongside Santi Solari and Manu Fernandez, or becoming part of the first team coaching staff .

This latter prospect could come to fruition given Raul’s excellent relationship with Ancelotti and his assistants, and also give him more experience in the higher ranks before making a move into those ranks at some point in the near future, as was already the case with Zinedine Zidane .

Raul’s appointment would also tick another box, with Ancelotti reportedly wanting to add another member to his coaching group.

Last month, the potential appointment of Stockport assistant Andy Mangan appeared to be progressing until it was derailed by Brexit-related issues.
