According to a news release Wednesday, on July 27 at 7:22 p.m., a Loveland Police Department officer was dispatched to assist another agency at a nursing facility in the 2100 block of South Garfield Avenue. The department later confirmed that the alleged incident occurred at the Good Samaritan Society in Loveland.

The officer spoke with a facility employee who said he observed a caregiver, later identified as Devon McCormick, engaging in “suspicious activity” with a 78-year-old resident, the news release did not specify addresses the alleged events.

Shortly after that report to police, McCormick was released from the facility, according to the news release.

The LPD officer arranged follow-up interviews over several weeks and based on the information gathered during that time, the case was assigned to the LPD Criminal Investigation Division on September 27, “fully cooperative” with the department.

Investigators interviewed McCormick, obtained a warrant on Oct. 3 and arrested the Greeley resident.

McCormick was charged with two counts of attempted sexual assault of a vulnerable victim, a Class 3 felony; two counts of aggravated sexual contact with a vulnerable person, a Class 3 felony; and three counts of indecent exposure, a Class 1 misdemeanor. This is the first time he has been charged with a sex crime. His only other criminal charges involved a guilty plea to driving on a fictitious license in Weld County last year, state court records show.

He remains in custody at the Larimer County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond and is scheduled to make his first appearance before 8th Judicial District Judge Joseph Findley at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 14 in Fort Collins.

Through their investigation, investigators learned that McCormick has been in the medical nursing field for three years and has worked at multiple facilities over various periods of time. This includes:

• The Gallery at Broomfield Assisted & Senior Living, 145 W. 169th Ave. in Broomfield from August 20, 2024 to October 2, 2024.

• Pelican Pointe Health and Rehabilitation, 710 Third St., in Windsor from July 25, 2023 to December 22, 2023.

• South Platte Health and Rehabilitation Center, 2200 Edison St. in Brush from October 12, 2021 through the end of December 2021.

The department did not say in the release how long he had worked at Good Samaritan.

Investigators believe McCormick may also have helped family members with child and elder care in northern Colorado in recent years. Those who recognize him as a caregiver, have concerns about abuse or recognize him as an employee of a nursing facility were asked to call the department at 970-962-2032 or Larimer County Crime Stoppers at 970-221-6868.
