Eight people charged in Brooklyn’s year-long Medicaid kickback scheme

Eight people associated with two social adult day care centers in Brooklyn have been indicted in a years-long conspiracy to defraud Medicaid of about $68 million.

The indictment, unsealed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, alleges that owners and employees of Happy Family Social Adult Day Care Inc., Family Social Adult Day Care Inc. and financial intermediary Responsible Care Staffing, Inc ., paid kickbacks and bribes to recruiters and Medicaid recipients to induce them to enroll in care.
