In shocking news from the football world, former Sheffield United defender George Baldock has died aged 31. Police officers found his body in a swimming pool at his home in Glyfada, southern Athens. Despite attempts to resuscitate him at the scene, medical officials were unable to check his life and confirmed his death, according to BBC reports. The entire football community is in shock and his family issued a statement: “We can confirm that George has sadly passed away. As a family we are shocked by this terrible loss.”

Remarkably, his wife tried to search for him for several hours but was unable to find the football player. Not knowing what to do, his wife called the property owner for help tracking down the player. Unfortunately, the owner saw him lying dead in the swimming pool, which shocked everyone. According to various reports, Baldock drowned in the swimming pool for several hours until units arrived.

According to initial reports from Greek officials, there is no evidence of foul play in the incident. They will make an official statement on the footballer’s death on Thursday. After the autopsy, the cause of death will be determined. The player had just moved to Greek club Panathinaikos in the summer transfer window. He spent seven years at Sheffield United and became a mainstay in defense. However, this news shocked the football community, who took to social media to pay their respects.

Several clubs paid tribute to Baldock, who died in unfortunate circumstances. The Blades posted: “The defender left the club in the summer after seven years at Bramall Lane and was extremely popular with fans, staff and team-mates who wore a red and white jersey alongside him.”

Notably, Baldock appeared twelve times for Greece and gained citizenship through his grandmother. As Greece plays England in the upcoming UEFA Nations League, the players will wear a black armband in favor of George Baldock. The player began his career in England with MK Dons in 2009 and made over 100 appearances.
