Team news

England: With Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Cole Palmer all back in the squad, the latter in the form of his life, there is a smorgasbord of riches for Lee Carsley to try and fit into advanced midfield roles while playing with the Few injuries have surfaced. The most notable of these are Harry Kane and Jack Grealish, both of whom may remain in the reserves with Finland still to come during the international break.

A bigger challenge is in defense, where Carsley has been unable to field a natural left-back in his squad. Rico Lewis and Levi Colwill could both be in the running, while Tino Livramento, a late addition to the group alongside Curtis Jones, could also be in the running.

Possible English XI: Pickford; Alexander Arnold, Stones, Guehi, Colwill; Rice; Saka, Bellingham, Palmer, Gordon; Watkins

Greece: While Ioannidis’ absence will certainly be keenly felt, it also offers one of Europe’s top goalscorers in recent years the chance to transfer his form to the international stage. Vangelis Pavlidis left AZ Alkmaar in the summer and joined Benfica after scoring 80 goals in 137 games. For his country, however, his return is more prosaic: six out of 40.

This squad includes several names that might be familiar to the Wembley crowd. Konstantinos Mavropanos and Kostas Tsimikas are Premier League regulars, while Odysseas Vlachodimos moved from Nottingham Forest to Newcastle in the summer, albeit a highly publicized move due to the high transfer fee rather than the goalkeeper himself. Christos Tzolis, who scored for Club Brugge in the Champions League, could also be a dangerous man against Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Possible Greek eleven: Vlachodimos; Rota, Mavropanos, Koulierakis, Tsimikas; Siopis, Kourbelis; Masouras, Bakasetas, Tzolis; Pavlidis
