“Sounded like a car accident:” Vero Beach residents survey damage after tornado

Like many areas on the Treasure Coast, Vero Beach experienced a tornado on Wednesday.

WPTV’s Jamie Ostroff was in Vero Beach surveying the damage from the tornadoes. Ostroff said there was extensive damage along 15th Avenue, a residential area. There are no reports of injuries.

She also spoke to people who sought shelter when the tornado struck.

“It sounded like a car accident,” Tony Hernandez said.

“When I moved into the back room it got even louder. Everything was banging loudly and stuff. “It sounded like a car accident,” Tony Hernandez said.

“That whole garage is missing, that fence is missing, everything up there – that whole tree is gone,” he added. “That’s missing. There’s a roof hanging from the power line somewhere down there. I was just surprised.”

“I think the biggest weight is knowing it’s not over yet. That’s just the first part of it. It hasn’t even reached the other coast yet,” said Stephen Perry.
