Tampa Police Officers Save Helpless Dog Left for Dead in Hurricane Milton, Internet Users Demand Arrest of Owners: ‘Cruel and Criminal’

Before Hurricane Milton, police officers in Tampa found a helpless dog screaming for help after his owners left him to die, tied to a fence in belly-deep water. On the morning of Wednesday, October 9, Florida Highway Patrol officers discovered the abandoned dog barking for help.

Tampa police officers rescue helpless dog left for dead in Hurricane Milton (FHP Tampa).

The officers parked their patrol cars and walked across a wet field next to Interstate 75 to rescue the pooch.

FHP Tampa shared the heartbreaking video on “Please DO NOT do this to your pets…”

They later shared a photo of the dog in an update, saying, “The dog rescued by @FHPTampa is safe and being cared for. Officers took him to a veterinarian where he was examined for injuries and given a clean bill of health.”

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis shared the video on X and thanked the highway patrol. “Thank you @FHPTampa,” he wrote. “It is cruel for anyone to leave a dog tied to a post in the middle of an approaching storm. FL will hold anyone who mistreats pets accountable.”

“This is cruel and criminal”

The video shared by FHP Tampa received an overwhelming response, with many calling for the dog owners to be arrested. “Thank you @FHPTampa for helping this dog. I hope you find and arrest the (previous) owners,” one user wrote. “This is ridiculous. The owner faces legal consequences,” one user said, while another said: “It’s absolutely heartbreaking and cruel that someone would leave their pet behind.” Well done and thank you for saving her.” One wrote: ” God bless you for saving this poor, sweet dog. The soldier in the video deserves praise for his kindness, compassion and understanding. I’m so glad you cared enough about this dog. I hope he finds the best possible home. That’s how it’s done.”

“This is cruel and criminal. If they find the owners they should be arrested,” one user wrote, while another said: “It is absolutely heartless to treat your pet like this.” One user wrote: “Very sad indeed. The poor thing is scared to death. Thank God he was saved.”
