Two dead in head-on collision off Ranchester

CASPER, Wyo. — Two Florida residents died at the scene of a head-on crash on U.S. 14 outside Ranchester on Monday, Oct. 7, according to a statement from the Wyoming Highway Patrol on Wednesday.

“Evidence at the scene and input from the driver and vehicle prior to the crash are still being analyzed by the Wyoming Highway Patrol crash team,” the release said.

According to Highway Patrol, 58-year-old Dayton resident Steven Paulson was taken by ambulance to Sheridan Memorial Hospital. Paulson was driving a 2021 Jeep eastbound in a 65 mph zone and was making a right turn when a westbound 2024 Chevy Silverado collided head-on in the eastbound lane.

“The driver of the Chevrolet was identified as John Ori, a 79-year-old man from Gulf Breeze, Florida. Also in the Chevrolet was a passenger identified as Jay Foose, a 73-year-old man from Inglis, Florida,” the release said. “Both the driver and passenger succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the accident.”

Driver, speed and inattention are being investigated as possible causes.
