The four-time Oscar nominee reveals that she and Gosling were not filming together at the time of his firing, but were “making some preparations.” When asked if Gosling’s firing disorientated her as a young actress, Ronan dismisses the idea, saying she didn’t really see it that way.

“I think I just loved Ryan. And his dog George,” says Ronan. “And I was just sad that he wasn’t going to be there. But I think the reasons why they broke up were absolutely legitimate and I’ve spoken to both of them now and it’s happening. Do you understand what I mean? It’s not necessarily personal. Sometimes you just don’t agree.”

Gosling himself addressed the dismissal in a 2010 interview The Hollywood Reporter“We had a different idea of what we wanted the character to look like,” Gosling said at the time. “I really believed he should weigh 210 pounds.”

He and Jackson hadn’t talked much during the pre-production process, and when Gosling showed up on set 60 pounds heavier, Jackson wasn’t particularly pleased.

“Then I was fat and unemployed,” Gosling added.

Ronan goes on to explain that Wahlberg was a more natural choice because he was older – Gosling was in his late 20s – and a father of three. However, Gosling and Ronan eventually worked together on Gosling’s 2014 directorial debut Lost Riverwhich he also wrote.

“It was great to work with him later,” says Ronan. “And he’s just the same. He doesn’t change.”
