There are reports of an increase in vandalism and theft of political signs in Utah gardens

As election season heats up in Utah, reports of political poster theft and vandalism continue to emerge.

Some residents are sharing their experiences on social media, reporting instances where their signs have been stolen or damaged.

A video from Carbon County shows a person intentionally destroying political signs on private property. The homeowner expressed frustration with the repeated incidents, saying it had happened more than once.

That sentiment resonates with others in Utah, as Teena Horlacher of Davis County noted that many people have reported similar issues and questioned the motivation for denying others their First Amendment rights.

In Salt Lake City, Stuart Graves experienced the theft of his outdoor political poster.

He called on people to respect different political opinions.

“Don’t be so upset that someone has a different political opinion than you,” he said. “Besides, this is really my property.”

The Salt Lake County Clerk’s Office warned that stealing political signs is a felony and is classified as a Class B misdemeanor in Utah. Offenders face up to six months in prison and fines of up to $1,000.

As frustration mounted, both Horlacher and Graves pleaded for kindness and understanding during this contentious time, emphasizing that political discourse should not lead to disrespect or hostility.
