Dylan O’Brien says concerns about Maze Runner were ignored before the accident

Dylan O’Brien opens up about the safety concerns he had on set The Maze Runner: The Death Curewhich resulted in the actor suffering serious injuries in an accident during filming.

The Saturday evening Star looked back on the “life-changing incident” in a recent interview Men’s Health. In 2016, O’Brien filmed the third part of the series Maze runner franchise when he was unexpectedly pulled from the roof of a moving vehicle while wearing a seatbelt and struck by another vehicle.

“You could say I approached everything differently, especially when it came to asserting myself on set,” he said of the experience’s impact on his life. “It’s very common in the culture for young actors to be controlled, and they strive to achieve that by always saying, ‘Oh, don’t be difficult.’ Don’t be annoying. Or are you complaining, are you being difficult?’ Things like that.”

After his accident he was Teen Wolf Alum said he learned to hold his own on set and not allow it to be difficult to take care of himself.

“Don’t let yourself be manipulated into thinking this is difficult because when I look at that day I know I was a 24-year-old boy who voiced his concerns about how we do things and them “They weren’t listened to,” they weren’t respected. And then what happened happened,” O’Brien said. “And from all appearances it all pretty much came through, I would say.”

He continued: “It taught me that in these spaces you ultimately have your own back, and that’s the best thing you can count on.” I just turned 33. I’ve been doing this for 15 years. I know the person I am, the character I bring to locations, the way I deal with people and how I deal with a workplace, and I know that I am not difficult. I know I’m not an asshole. I know I tried to protect myself that day and that’s why I’ve never forgotten it. That’s always considered what I should keep with me.”

The Ponyboi Actor previously told The Hollywood Reporter In 2017 he thanked him for his film American assassin since it was his first project after his accident.

“It was a really hard time that I went through and it was definitely difficult to commit to it and go out and do it, but at this point I just couldn’t be more grateful that I did it,” he said at the time . “I feel like it helped me a lot in a lot of ways. For me it will always remain a very personal film. It was really huge for me. It was like I got back on my feet.”
