Garth Brooks files lawsuit in response to rape and sexual assault allegations

Garth Brooks has filed a new lawsuit against a professional makeup artist and hairdresser he previously worked with who accused him of rape, sexual assault and other crimes earlier this month.

In a new filing filed Tuesday in Mississippi, Brooks claims he is the “victim of a raid” by a former employee, named in court papers as Jane Roe.

In Brooks’ amended complaint, he gave the name Jane Roe. ABC News is not naming Brooks’ accuser.

Brooks filed a lawsuit back in September in which he and his former employee remained anonymous in order to “obtain relief.” [Roe’s] ongoing attempted extortion, defamation” and “false allegations of sexual misconduct that would cause irreparable harm to his “reputation, family, career and livelihood,” the filing said.

Roe then filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles earlier this month, accusing the country singer of rape, sexual assault and more. She named Brooks in the file.

Brooks denied the allegations and accused Roe of extortion in a statement from his then-lawyer.

“For the past two months, I have been endlessly plagued with threats, lies and tragic stories about what my future would be if I did not write a multi-million dollar check,” he said. “Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I’m admitting to behavior I’m incapable of – ugly acts that no human being should ever do to another.”

In the new filings, Brooks said he had previously used pseudonyms for himself and Roe “in the interest of his family and also out of respect for Roe’s family.”

Brooks claims his attempts to protect his and Roe’s names under pseudonyms “were rendered moot” because Roe revealed his name in her lawsuit.

In his amended discharge order, Brooks requests a jury trial and seeks “a declaratory judgment” that Roe’s allegations against him are “untrue.”

He also seeks compensatory and punitive damages, attorneys’ fees and “other relief as the court deems appropriate.”

Roe’s lawyers – Douglas H. Wigdor, Jeanne M. Christensen and Hayley Baker – responded with a statement after Brooks named her client.

“Garth Brooks just revealed his true self. Out of spite and punishment, he publicly called himself a rape victim,” Roe’s lawyers — Douglas H. Wigdor, Jeanne M. Christensen and Hayley Baker — said in a statement. “Without any legal justification, Brooks outed her because he believes the laws don’t apply to him. On behalf of our client, we will immediately initiate maximum sanctions against him.”

Roe requires a jury trial in all criminal matters and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, attorneys’ fees, and “such other relief as the court deems appropriate.”

Brooks is also seeking a jury trial, compensatory and punitive damages, and “a declaratory judgment” that Roe’s “allegations of sexual misconduct against him are untrue.”

ABC News reached out to Brooks’ representative for comment, citing legal filings.
