Dante Exum’s latest injury news is tragic, but there are positives too

Former Utah Jazz lottery pick Dante Exum suffered a wrist injury last week that will cause him to miss much of the season. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported via his X account that Exum will miss three months of the season.

It was obviously a tough blow for Exum and the Mavericks considering how he contributed to their success last season, but at least it won’t end his season prematurely. It’s not like Exum was lucky with his recent injury, but knowing his past, it could have been worse.

Exum definitely showed his potential in his rookie year with the Jazz. He looked raw, but his defense was excellent while his individual offense still needed further development. Exum was believed to be an oversized point guard, meaning his body should have given him a lot of matchup advantages.

Unfortunately, Exum never really had the chance to make it happen, largely due to untimely injuries.

First it started with a torn ACL in 2015 that caused him to miss his sophomore year, then he injured his shoulder just before the 2017-18 season, which proved unfortunate as Exum would have had a chance to prove himself as a Supporters to prove Gordon Hayward’s departure.

This was among the worst of the many injuries Exum suffered while playing in Utah. Despite the injuries, Exum showed the player Utah envisioned when they selected him in 2014.

Throughout this time, Exum still had loyal supporters in Utah, but their faith was never rewarded. It wasn’t anyone’s fault and watching Exum’s comeback last season was fun for the Jazz fans who were dying to see him.

That’s why, at first glance, it’s sad that history is repeating itself again with Exum. At the same time, he had things much, much worse in the past. Both he and Utah know this from their time together. Exum will have to prove himself again upon his return, but he is all too familiar with such a challenge.

He may never be a star, but Exum has at least proven that he should be in the NBA in the future. It’s crazy to know he’s only 29 years old since the Jazz drafted him over 10 years ago.
