Ludhiana: 3 years later ‘Ragi’ arrested for sexual assault on a minor boy

Police said the accused, a gurdwara employee, lured the minor on the pretext of giving him ‘prasad’ and sodomized him.

The complainant said the accused videotaped the attack and threatened the boy to keep his mother.

Three years after the attack, the matter came to light when videos of the incident surfaced online.

Jagraon city police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused, identified as Jassi Baba of Kaunke Kalan village.

The complainant said he was a school dropout and started attending Gurdwara Nanaksar Thath three years ago.

The minor alleged that the accused asked him to a room on the pretext of giving him ‘prasad’ and sexually abused him.

The minor said he did not tell anyone about the incident for three years. On Tuesday, he told his mother about the ordeal, who then informed the police.

Sub-inspector Kirandeep Kaur, who is probing the case, said an FIR has been registered under Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.

Leaders of several Sikh organizations demanded strict action against the accused.

In the last 40 days, this is the second incident in which a religious person has been arrested for involvement in a sexual assault case.

On September 1, Jagraon city police arrested the head of a religious Dera for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of marriage. The woman alleged that the accused Baljinder Singh offered to her after she started filing a case against him ₹10 lakh for withdrawing the case.

Baljinder Singh is the head of Gurdwara Thath Charan Ghat on Raikot Road.
