Lubinets proposes to increase criminal liability for arson of military vehicles

The Ukrainian parliament’s human rights commissioner, Dmytro Lubinets, has introduced changes to Ukraine’s criminal code that will strengthen protection against arson attacks on cars belonging to military personnel and their families.

The ombudsman reported this via Telegram, reports Ukrinform.

“From the information contained in open sources, I found out that law enforcement agencies have registered 266 cases of arson attacks on cars belonging to military personnel and volunteers since the beginning of the year. In total, about 300 cars were damaged in different regions of Ukraine. “I believe that attacks on military personnel represent not only an attack on the health and property of an individual, but also an attack on the government order, the basic principles of the existence of any state, especially during martial law,” Lubinets said.

He sent an initiative letter to the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Law Enforcement with proposed amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

“I have proposed the introduction of a special regime of increased criminal liability for attacks on the health or property of a serviceman or a member of his family in connection with the performance of his official duties,” the ombudsman said.

He is convinced that the proposed changes are very important “from the perspective of social justice and the need for increased criminal protection of soldiers who defend our independence in wartime, give to our state and the people of Ukraine.” The most valuable – their lives and their health.”

As Ukrinform previously reported, according to the Prosecutor General’s Office, law enforcement agencies have registered 266 cases of arson attacks on military and volunteer vehicles since the beginning of the year. In total, around 300 vehicles were damaged in various regions.
