Six people are killed and eleven injured in the Russian rocket attack on Odessa Oblast

At least six people were killed and 11 injured in a Russian rocket attack on the southern Ukrainian Odessa Oblast on October 9, regional governor Oleh Kiper reported on Telegram.

Russian forces have targeted a Panama-flagged civilian container ship Shui Spirit, according to Oleksii Kuleba, Minister of Municipal, Territorial and Infrastructure Development.

“Today, Ukraine remains the guarantor of food security. “It is therefore important to stop the perpetration of this terror with sufficient weapons, air defense, diplomacy, sanctions and punishment for any war crimes,” Kuleba added.

Odessa Oblast Governor Kiper said all victims were citizens of Ukraine. At least seven people are in serious condition and are being treated at local hospitals.

According to Ukrainian authorities, the October 9 incident was the third attack in four days.

Kiper accused Russia of trying to disrupt Ukraine’s maritime food corridor, which Kiev set up in August 2023 after Moscow withdrew from the Black Sea grain deal in July.

“I call on all states and organizations to condemn the Russian attacks and take measures to stop the attacker, ensure freedom of navigation and global food security,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha wrote on X.
