Local election officials are preparing for November amid increased voter interest

With less than a month to go before the November election, local officials are already in the middle of the busy season.

“We get a lot of calls from voters wanting to verify their voter registration,” Dan Forester, Washington County elections department director, said. “This is good because it shows us that many people are looking forward to participating in the election and want to make sure they receive a ballot when it is mailed out next week.”

In Multnomah County, elections director Tim Scott agreed that there is also less misinformation being spread in his county compared to 2020.

“Our elections are secure and transparent. Clackamas County has a number of security measures in place to protect elections. We are working with local and internal partners to ensure the safety of voters and staff, as well as the security of ballots and election processes,” Clackamas County Clerk Catherine McMullen said in a statement to KATU.

“We met yesterday with local law enforcement, county risk management, private security agencies and other stakeholders. Discussions, planning and preparation are ongoing with these and other entities,” Marion County Clerk Bill Burgess said in an email to KATU.

Burgess says they are committed to secure elections.
