Middle River man accused of sexually abusing young girls allegedly referred to himself as a ‘monster’ – Grand Forks Herald

MARSHALL COUNTY, Minn. – A Middle River, Minn., man is being held on a $250,000 cash or surety bond in two criminal cases accusing him of routinely sexually abusing two young girls.

On Aug. 30, law enforcement received a report that 50-year-old Calvin John Rybakowski had sexually assaulted an 8-year-old girl in his apartment two days earlier, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case.

This was the latest in a series of attacks that the girl said began when she was six years old.

When asked about the Aug. 28 incident, Rybakowski allegedly said he smoked mixed marijuana that night and didn’t remember anything. He gave him his stash and said, “If he does things like touch children, he doesn’t want to do that anymore,” the statement said.

For this reported crime, Rybakowski was charged with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. He was arrested on September 9th.

Three days later, a second person came forward.

The woman, now 22, told law enforcement that Rybakowski sexually abused her four times, when she was 7, 9, 11 and 13 years old.

According to the statement, the first sexual contact occurred in 2010.

In the second and third cases, which reportedly took place in 2012 and 2014, Rybakowski allegedly raped her, the statement said.

When Rybakowski allegedly tried to have sexual contact with the girl for the fourth time in 2016, she hit him in the genitals and ran from the room, the statement said. He left the apartment and never tried anything again, she said.

The girl’s mother learned of the sexual abuse in 2017 and reported it to law enforcement, but there was insufficient information at the time, the statement said.

The woman said she came forward a second time because she didn’t want other girls to experience what she did.

When law enforcement questioned Rybakowski about the older allegations, he reportedly became agitated and said they had been resolved a long time ago. He said he never touched the girl, “and now people are just out to get him,” the statement said.

The officer reported that Rybakowski appeared to be attracted to younger girls; He tries to touch them when they are sleeping and stops once they develop, the statement said.

During the interview, Rybakowski reportedly stated he had a problem and referred to himself as a “monster.”

As a result of these allegations, Rybakowski was charged with three counts of first-degree sexual battery.

Rybakowski was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, October 8, on the two counts. His bail was set at $250,000 cash or surety, and a summary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19 at 9 a.m.
